doctor furman

Dr. Rick Furman (Owner)

Dr. Furman moved to Reno from Southern California with his family as a child and has resided here ever since. His experiences at Huffaker Elementary, Wooster High School, and the University of Nevada, Reno were all essential precursors to his veterinary education at Colorado State University. He graduated magna cum laude from CSU in 1990 and began his professional career at Klaich Animal Hospital. He has always had a strong interest in surgery, and through the years, has expanded his skills to include a wide variety of soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurosurgical procedures.

In his leisure time, Dr. Furman enjoys a variety of outdoor activities while exploring this great state. He shares a home with his husband Sergio, Pugs Chukar, Lucas, and Benzie and Rolex the Sphinx cat.
dr catterson

Dr. Augusta Catterson

Dr. Catterson was raised in the Reno, NV area and showed a strong love for animals at a young age. She was very involved in many 4-H and FFA projects during her youth. After graduating from Reno High School, she received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Oregon State University and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. For several years, she worked in a mixed animal practice before moving back to Reno to join Klaich Animal Hospital in 2009. Dr. Catterson has a special interest in surgery, in addition to internal medicine and diagnostics. She recently received extended training in orthopedic surgery.

During her free time, she enjoys spending the day with her husband, Alan, and German Shepherd, Hans, hiking, fishing, and going for walks.  She also attempts crafts like sewing and quilting projects.

Dr. Moriah Nichols

Dr. Nichols grew up on a ranch in Fallon, NV where animals became a huge part of her life at a very young age. At the tender age of five, she had her heart set on becoming a veterinarian.

She attended the University of Nevada, Reno to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. While attending school, Dr. Nichols worked as a veterinary technician at Klaich Animal Hospital. She continued her education at Colorado State University graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.

In her spare time, Dr. Nichols enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, running, playing soccer, biking and traveling. She also enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and animals, Indie and Georgie.
dr marlene haggblade

Dr. Marlene Haggblade

Dr. Haggblade grew up overseas in Madagascar, Zambia, and Bangladesh. Surrounded by diverse fauna from an early age instilled a desire to pursue a career at the intersection of medicine and the conservation and health of animals. Dr. Haggblade has her BA in Biology from Pomona College (Claremont, CA) and her DVM from UC Davis (Davis, CA). Outside of the workplace she loves all forms of frolicking in nature (including but not limited to running, skiing, biking, and dancing). She lives in Reno with her partner, Simon, and her cuddly (albeit possibly feral) mutt, Tule.

Dr. Ryan Bertucci

Dr. Ryan Bertucci grew up in Gardnerville, NV. He graduated with a biology degree from California State University, Chico and went on to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. Dr. Bertucci is passionate about continuing his education and abilities in the fields of radiology, surgery, and dentistry. He and his DVM wife, Shayla, enjoy recreational time in the outdoors with their 3 dogs, Sierra, Nymira, and the newest addition, Oliver.

Dr. Shayla Bertucci

Dr. Shayla Bertucci was born and raised in Reno, NV. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. Dr. Bertucci's specific interests in veterinary medicine include surgery, neurology, and emergency medicine. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan, backpacking, rock climbing, jumping horses, and performing stand-up comedy. Shayla and Ryan's family consists of two Pit Bulls named Sierra and Nymira, a Shiba Inu named Oliver, two horses named Luna and Amora, and more chickens than Ryan expected.

Dr. Tara Whalen

Dr. Tara Whalen was born in Wyoming but raised in Reno, NV. After graduating from Wooster High
School’s IB Program she went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from UNR before obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 2018.

After graduating from WSU, Dr. Whalen practiced small animal medicine in Eugene, Oregon for four years before deciding to finally return home to Reno, where she happily joined the Klaich family. Her professional interests include dentistry, anesthesia, and working with pet owners to provide the best possible care for our senior canine and feline companions.

Outside of work Dr. Tara loves spending time with her husband, Mitch, and their pack of wild heathens: two rescued pit bulls named Potato and Poppy as well as the king of the house – a saucy cat named The Fuzz. Together, they enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, camping, off-roading (they often get stuck), BBQ-ing and working on project cars.

Dr. Brian Painting

Dr. Painting was raised in Sacramento, CA. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences. Some of his professional interests include surgery, neurology, and cardiology.

In his free time, Dr. Painting enjoys playing and watching a variety of different sports, running, and spending time with his partner Clarissa and their dog Rukkus.
