Our Reno Veterinarians

Dr. Rick Furman

Dr. Furman moved to Reno from Southern California with his family as a child and has resided here ever since. His experiences at Huffaker Elementary, Wooster High School, and the University of Nevada, Reno were all essential precursors to his veterinary education at Colorado State University. He graduated magna cum laude from CSU in 1990 and began his professional career at Klaich Animal Hospital. He has always had a strong interest in surgery, and through the years, has expanded his skills to include a wide variety of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures.

In his leisure time, Dr. Furman enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, while exploring this great state. He shares a home with his partner, Sergio, Jack the Labrador, and three Chinese pugs, Louie, Cracker, and Chukar.

Dr. Augusta Catterson

Dr. Catterson was raised in the Reno, NV area, and showed a strong love for animals at a young age. She was very involved in many 4-H and FFA projects during her youth. After graduating from Reno High School, she received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Oregon State University and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. For several years, she worked in a mixed animal practice before moving back to Reno and joined Klaich Animal Hospital in 2009. Dr. Catterson has a special interest in surgery, in addition to internal medicine and diagnostics, and recently, she has received extended training in orthopedic surgery.

During her free time, she enjoys spending the day with her husband, Alan, and German Shepherd, Rocco, hiking, fishing, and going for walks. Dr. Catterson also enjoys relaxing with her cat, Margaret, and spending time with her saltwater aquarium. She also attempts crafts like sewing and quilting projects.

Dr. Nichols

Dr. Nichols grew up on a ranch in Fallon Nevada where animals became a huge part of her life at a very young age. At the tender age of five, she had her heart set on becoming a veterinarian.

She attended the University of Nevada Reno to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. While attending school, Dr. Nichols worked as a veterinary technician at Klaich Animal Hospital. She continued her education at Colorado State University graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Dr. Nichols is excited to be back in Reno starting her professional career at Klaich Animal Hospital.

In her spare time, Dr. Nichols enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, running, playing soccer and gardening. She also enjoys spending time with her family, friends and husband, Scott, and cuddling on the couch reading with her two cats.

Dr. Marlene Haggblade

Dr. Haggblade grew up overseas in Madagascar, Zambia, and Bangladesh. Surrounded by diverse fauna from an early age instilled a desire to pursue a career at the intersection of medicine and the conservation and health of animals. Dr. Haggblade has her BA in biology from Pomona College (Claremont, CA) and her DVM from UC Davis (Davis, CA). Outside of the workplace she loves all forms of frolicking in nature (including but not limited to running, skiing, biking, and dancing). She lives in Reno with her partner, Simon, and her cuddly (albeit possibly feral) mutt, Tule.
