Founded in 1950 by Dr. Nicholas Klaich, Sr., Klaich Animal Hospital Reno remains the oldest continually operating veterinary practice in Northern Nevada.

A trusted Reno vet, many of our clients have been bringing their pets to us for generations. Our staff of excellent veterinarians and technicians are committed to providing the best care for our clients and all of their pets.

Our Veterinarians

Dr. Rick Furman


Dr. Furman moved to Reno from Southern California with his family as a child, and has resided here ever since. His experiences at Huffaker Elementary, Wooster High School, and the University of Nevada, Reno were all essential precursors to his veterinary education at Colorado State University. He graduated magna cum laude from CSU in 1990, and began his professional career at Klaich Animal Hospital. He has always had a strong interest in surgery, and through the years, has expanded his skills to include a wide variety of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures.

In his leisure time, Dr. Furman enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, while exploring this great state. He shares a home with his partner, Sergio, Jack the Labrador, and three Chinese pugs, Louie, Cracker, and Chukar.

Dr. Mark Klaich


A Third Generation Nevadan

Dr. Klaich is a Reno native who graduated from Reno High School and the University of Nevada.  He continued his education at Colorado State University where he graduated with honors in 1989.  Dr. Klaich is particularly interested in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.  In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking in the Nevada back country, with his dog Henry.

Dr. Augusta Catterson


Dr. Catterson was raised in the Reno, NV area, and showed a strong love for animals at a young age. She was very involved in many 4-H and FFA projects during her youth. After graduating from Reno High School, she received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Oregon State University, and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. For several years, she worked in a mixed animal practice before moving back to Reno and joined Klaich Animal Hospital in 2009. Dr. Catterson has a special interest in surgery, in addition to internal medicine and diagnostics, and recently, she has received extended training in orthopedic surgery.

During her free time, she enjoys spending the day with her husband, Alan, and German Shepherd, Rocco, hiking, fishing, and going for walks. Dr. Catterson also enjoys relaxing with her cat, Margaret, and spending time with her saltwater aquarium. She also attempts crafts like sewing and quilting projects.

Dr. Andrew Musick


Dr. Musick started his career at Klaich Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician. With the support of his family & senior staff at Klaich, Dr. Musick completed his undergraduate work at the University of Nevada, Reno, and attended Colorado State University, graduating in 2010. He then returned to Klaich Animal Hospital to start his professional career as a veterinarian.

Dr. Musick grew up in the Reno/Tahoe area and is excited to be able to practice in such a beautiful and exciting place.

Dr. Amarett Kern


Dr. Kern completed her Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Arizona before deciding to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She attended Washington State University, graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and then joined Klaich Animal Hospital.

In her spare time, Dr. Kern enjoys the many outdoor activities and travel. She often visits friends and family as much as possible. Dr. Kern is thoroughly enjoying her career as a veterinarian and loves living in Reno.

Dr. Alicia Fitzgerald


Dr. Fitzgerald grew up in the Pittsburgh area and completed her undergraduate education at Pennsylvania State University. She continued her education at Louisiana State University and graduated in 2014 from the School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she moved to Reno to join the team at Klaich Animal Hospital.

In her free time, Dr. Fitzgerald enjoys curling up and relaxing with a good book and her four cats, Socrates, Dorris, Eden, and Fleury.

Dr. Nichols


Dr. Nichols grew up on a ranch in Fallon Nevada where animals became a huge part of her life at a very young age. At the tender age of five, she had her heart set on becoming a veterinarian.

She attended the University of Nevada Reno to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. While attending school, Dr. Nichols worked as a veterinary technician at Klaich Animal Hospital. She continued her education at Colorado State University graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Dr. Nichols is excited to be back in Reno starting her professional career at Klaich Animal Hospital.

In her spare time, Dr. Nichols enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, running, playing soccer and gardening. She also enjoys spending time with her family, friends and husband, Scott, and cuddling on the couch reading with her two cats.

Dr. Cassandra Allen

Dr. Allen grew up in the Reno/Sparks area, going to Edward C. Reed High School then UNR for undergrad where she received the Senior Scholar Award. After much deliberation, she finally decided to go to the Royal Veterinary College in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2016. She is accredited to work in North America, all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other British colonies.

Dr. Allen loves working with exotics, including wildlife, having grown up with frogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, and ferrets. She also has worked in a variety of exotic practices as well as a few zoos.

In her spare time, Dr. Allen likes spending time outdoors with her 2 dogs. She also likes spending time with her 2 guinea pigs outside when it is warm so they can enjoy some fresh grass. Besides these, she also spends time with her cat and rat. Thankfully, she has her wonderful husband to help take care of this mini zoo, which will inevitably grow with time.
